Possibly one of the most heartening sights in this immensely strange film directed by Aube Perrie, through Parisian production outfit MYND x Wanda, is the sight of a dog engaged in his toilet work on a lavatory, rather than in a park or pavement – obviating the need for anyone to wield a poop scoop in his wake.

But this isn’t any old toilet-trained mutt, this is a humanoid hybrid – with a brilliantly realised animatronic bonce that bears a woeful hangdog expression throughout.

Shot in 16mm, the engaging video tells the tale of an anthropomorphic dog with a complex love life who engages in all manner of un-canine activities. He irons in his underpants, gets a tattoo, sells fast food and sits quietly next to a cat without barking, all the while expressing the kind of forlorn expressions that bulldogs excel at.

Interesting pet fact: apparently humans are able to interact more with dogs than cats due to the fact that your average canine chum has moveable eyebrow muscles. This enables them to manage a more complex range of emotional signals than cats, with their inscrutable gazes, can – or even want to – attempt.
