Bringing to visual life the digital threats online anonymity can foster, Sweetshop director Nicolas Jack Davies' arresting film certainly makes us fear the Uninvited.
Aimed at parents and caregivers, the film aims to raise awareness of End-to-End Encryption, and the impact it could have on children’s safety, if social media companies put it in place without the right safeguards, and shows how child sex abusers use social media platforms to reach and exploit children through a series of digital glitches.
Presented said predators as a Doctor Who-esque monstrous threat, the film's naturalistic performances alongside the unsettling visuals makes for a parallel that's hard to ignore.
