Created by Ace of Hearts, and directed and edited by Humby through UNTOLD STUDIOS and Chuckles Studios, this captivating trailer marks the opening of UK gallery Tate Modern’s latest exhibition on the extraordinary Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.
Titled Frida: The Making of an Icon, the film is told entirely through the painter's own words. It opens in her childhood and arrives quickly at the tram accident in 1925 which shaped her life and work forever, unfolding into a bold montage depicting her wide influence on contemporary visual culture. Throughout it runs a heartbeat that builds pace alongside her paintings, X rays, and family photographs.
The film is scored by a track rooted in Mexican musical tradition, created by Luis Almau at Soundtree and written with Mexican multi instrumentalist Tulio Torres, who played flutes, whistles, drums and percussion including the tlapizalli.
