There's still something impossibly futuristic about the idea of a vacuum cleaner that scoots itself around, but is this tech just making us lazy?

Such is the proposition put forward by Scandinavian fitness chain SATS Nordics in its new Choose to Move campaign from TRY, with the spot showcasing just how motionless people have become when they rely on mod cons.

Shot by Bleck comedy mastermind Morten Borgestad, the film finds laughs in the sheer stillness of its protagonists, with the thumping soundtrack and sharp edit providing a delightful contrast.

“We live in a time when it has never been easier not to move, even though we know how important movement is for both our physical and mental health,” says Rikke Skogen, Nordic Marketing Director at SATS.

“With ‘Choose to Move,’ we’re not trying to make people feel guilty. We want to remind them how good it actually feels to be active. This is more than a campaign – it’s a long-term Nordic initiative designed to inspire more people to choose movement, both inside and outside the gym.”

“The fact that technology has made us move less is hardly news. But at the rate we’re engineering effort out of everyday life, soon there won’t even be a reason to lift a finger,” say TRY creatives Caroline Riis and Eirik Sørensen.

“With robots doing this and robots doing that, movement is increasingly becoming something you have to actively choose. And we think that’s something people will recognise. We take the escalator down. We have electric salt and pepper grinders. The idea actually came to us when an electric baby rocker appeared in our Instagram feed. At that point, we thought: maybe we really do need to choose to move.”
