Here at shots we have to keep our eyes well peeled for work that crosses ‘the cheeseline’.

This is where a sentimental spot just whiffs a bit too much of the old fromage, rendering it unpalatable. However, if a campaign is fully aware of its own dairy-based comestible content, this can be classed as ‘knowing cheese’, which is fine. It’s inadvertent cheese one wants to avoid.

Deftly directed by Salsa through Foss Productions, Love Story may carry a slightly confusing message – that a home stuffed with IKEA furnishings somehow facilitates a happy outcome for a canine love affair – but no matter, it’s a good example of knowing cheese.

As is so often the case with successful work, it’s the music that helps it hit exactly the right note. Set to the delicious strains of Andy Williams’ 1970 hit (Where Do I Begin) Love Story, it follows the wagging tale of a lovelorn pooch and, along with some outstanding animal acting, delivers a sweet story.

Without wishing to hound the point home, we found it utterly labr-adorable.
