From Schafer Condon Carter, Not Fair is an emotive and distressing look at the ways in which disease often doesn’t play fair.
Heavy on emotion and unafraid to shy away from the horrific, uncompromising reality of what happens in a hospital, Not Fair doesn’t just touch a nerve, but sets them all on fire. Set to a choral version of Survivor (originally by Destiny’s Child), the ad is unflinching, showing grief, loss, and anger. This modern, powerful film for UChicago Medicine shows a dedication to craft and production that at first might go unrealized, or might be assumed to be documentary footage.
Director Sandro Miller, out of Bottle Rocket, has tapped into something raw and followed it through. Even the conclusion, where paramedics are shown working tirelessly, doesn’t lose the urgency of the beginning.
