Created by DDB Hamburg and directed by Kim Geldenhuys through Markenfilm, this well crafted film harks back to the dark history of hate speech in Germany, while highlighting the pain that online abuse is causing here and now.

Titled Cyber Mobbing, the film portrays scenes from the life of a young trans man, overlayed by the vitriolic texts and messages he’s received online, including rape threats and the horrific “in the old days you’d be gassed”.

Along with the palpable pain and confusion the verbal attacks cause him, the film achieves some balance by depicting him receiving acceptance and affection from his family and enjoying romantic moments with his girlfriend.

Which just goes to show – love can keep you afloat amid a sea of hate.

The tone is also lightened by the sweet and slinky strains of the track Midnight Mischief, performed by Jordan Rakei and Tom Misch.
