So what will become the new normal? Can we really turn our backs on a collective past that is a “memory filled with greed and inequity, fear and destruction”?

In that long-ago time before Covid, when climate change was the news, some quarters were beginning to realise that our species looked set to wreck the planet and it was high time we changed our ways.

So what now? Will environmental wokeness, a global pandemic and a – hopefully – enduring and effective movement to address racism bring us a world that “fits all of nature; all of humanity”.

This hypnotic contemplative film, We Shall Not Return, produced by Kiddo Films, is the result of Langfield and 10 cinematographers from across Canada and the UK joining to express a message of hope that we won’t just return to our old ways; that we will build a better, fairer world.

Langfield says the film, created remotely and observing lockdown rules, started off as “a singular, deeply personal exploration of fear for our collective future, and a reaction to the idea of ‘returning to normal’. It became a testament to the will of creativity.”
