Winamax, the French poker and sports betting website, has launched a new campaign that highlights that the aim of betting is to win.

Called The Ball of Yarn, the spot [above] and accompanying poster campaign [below] was created by TBWA\Paris, with the spot directed by Solab's Romain Chassaing. It is a stylish 70-second film that's set in an unnamed town in which the inhabitants are all wearing futuristic-looking cat masks.

When a bright red ball of yarn suddenly interrupts the peace and quiet of the urban surroundings, everyone instantly sets off in pursuit of the tumbling wool. A frantic race takes place through the city and as the yarn rolls down the avenues and alleys, a swarm of competitors joining the race to catch it. The film ends with the brand’s new signature; 'Wining is everything'.

“When you’re a leader you can’t just lean on a flashy advert and popularity," said Benjamin Marchal  and Faustin Claverie, Creative Directors at TBWA\Paris. "With The Ball of Yarn we wanted to break gambling conventions with a film and a poster campaign that no other brand than Winamax could have produced.”

“What we liked in this race to win is that it remains true and authentic about gambling," added TBWA\Paris' General Director, Jonathan Serog. "Because it’s not just a game... contrary to what some people would have us believe, you don’t make a bet just to have fun or to spice up your match... and certainly not just for the beauty of it. You bet to win, players know it... and so does Winamax.”
