Being locked up in our abodes has encouraged a lot of us to spruce up our living spaces, but, as this brilliantly constructed spot from Uncommon ably shows, we've been making a house a home for years.
Compiling snippets of real home videos from 69 families across the 69 cities that make-up the UK, B&Q's new brand campaign, Build a Life, directed by Knucklehead's Chris Hewitt, shows us the ups and downs of domestic life and how a slap of paint and a tidy shelf can shape them.
Chick full of nostalgic moments of growing up, including birthday parties, redecorating bedrooms, cups of tea catchups, slammed doors from family rows and making room for that new picture on the wall, the film shines through its masterful edit job (props to Lewis Noll) played out to The Cinematic Orchestra's Manhatta.
Closing with the classic endline 'You can do it' (to which everyone surely follows with "when you B&Q it"), Uncommon's work is both a hopeful ode to what's achievable and a loving reflection of the homelife's importance.
As Nils Leonard, Co-founder, Uncommon says: “‘You can do it’ has never been a more powerful thought. The idea that you can build a room, a house, a life. Uncommon are proud to partner B&Q in their mission to help everyone build the life they want.”
