Helmed by Femi Ladi through Somesuch, this mesmerising music video accompanies British rap icon Stormzy’s latest offering, Toxic Traits, produced by Santan (AKA Dave).
Captured in one dynamic shot, the first half of the film sees multiple versions of the rapper acting out his toxic habits. Honing in on gambling, violence and the glorification of luxury lifestyles, the scenes have been cleverly curated to emulate the style, colour and composition of Renaissance paintings.
Breaking mid-way, the promo cuts to a therapy scene between British rapper Fredo and his therapist; none other than TV royalty, Alison Hammond, and concludes with a group-therapy session featuring cameos from famous faces including Ivorian Doll, Wretch 32 and Specs Gonzalez.
Director Ladi stated: “After listening to the lyrics, I wanted to have fun with this video. I liked the idea of bringing a renaissance-style painting to life, whilst still feeling grounded in the world of Stormzy. We collaborated on all the scenarios together which was great - as well as being able to bring in the likes of Fredo and Alison Hammond for their own toxic therapy sessions!"
