There are few things that can’t be given a feelgood boost with a dose of Funiculì, Funiculà blasting in the background, but in this new campaign for Interrail, it’s not just the music that’s joyful.
Taking footage from 30 creators travelling across Europe and turning it into short films and social content, The Interrail Diaries is a bold and wonderful debut project from newly appointed creative agency WE ARE Pi.
Created in collaboration with Butterfly Effect, directed by Rick Chant and edited by Gert-Willem Visser, the hero film Between Here & There gives a glorious taste of European rail travel, capturing the breadth of experiences on offer and inspiring some real wanderlust along the way.
Özlem Birkalan, Chief Brand and Commercial Officer at Interrail, says: “‘The Interrail Effect’ isn’t something we invented. It’s something travellers have described to us for decades, in their own worlds, after every journey.
"What’s changing is that we’re finally building the brand around it. Not around where people travel, but around what travelling like this does to them.”
Rick Chant, ECD at WE ARE Pi, adds: “At a time when travel has never been more accessible, it’s becoming a race to see more and post more, with a third of people admitting they sometimes do an activity on holiday just so they can put it on their socials.
"Often, however, it’s the experience of the journey, and not the destination itself, that truly transforms you; and this is the insight that ‘The Interrail Effect’ brings to life.”
