Helmed by Sam and David Cutler-Kreutz, A Lien is the gripping first entry in a trio of award-winning shorts from the talented sibling directing duo, who recently signed to OB42.

With the title, 'a lien', being a claim or legal right to an asset, the heart-wrenching film follows the tale of young parents put through a Kafka-esque nightmare when applying for the Mexican father’s right to stay in the country he calls home with his American wife and daughter.

The realistic, documentary-style directing, sensitive cinematography from Andrea Gavazzi, seamless editing by Caitlin Carr, and impactful sound design by Eli Cohn help ramp up the tension to almost unbearable levels as we follow the family’s tragic visit to an immigration interview.

The piece is a scathing critique of the American government’s approach to immigration, particularly towards undocumented Mexican immigrants. It ends with the simple, unacceptable fact that ICE actively practises the arrest of undocumented immigrants at their Green Card interview.
