Cockblocking gets a political twist in this surprisingly funny and charming ad from dating service OkCupid.
As a pair of chicken farmers give us a tour of their farm, they admit that they often think of themselves as ‘professional cockblockers’, as one of their constant jobs is keeping the male roosters away from the female hens. After putting a TV into the hencoop to keep them calm, they realize that the hens ignore people who demonstrate apathy. Thinking on their feet, the farmers whip up a sign to hang around the rooster’s necks, guaranteeing that the hens wouldn’t ever bother with them again. The cockblock sign, if you haven’t watched the commercial, reads “NOT A REGISTERED VOTER.”
Mixing absurdity and docu-style confessional, Mischief at No Fixed Address expertly sets us up for the unexpected punchline at the end of Cockblockers. With slick production from Sanctuary Content, the piece is played completely straight, with only cheeky hints at cockblocking to create a bit of buzz. Director Brandt Lewis leaves the comedy up to the viewer, trusting that we think the joke is as funny as he does.
