Taking the Bob Marley classic One Love as a base and forming a message of optimism and celebration of sport is Oakley's new commercial.
Featuring 'Team Oakley' athletes - Diamond DeShields, Ryan Sheckler, Oksana Masters, Caroline Buchanan and Ítalo Ferreira - the ad's visuals not only show off people at the peak of their performance, but also intimate at what brought them to that stage.
Key to the campaign's success is agency AKQA's ingenious idea to have the athletes themselves contribute to the lyrics, giving the track's facelift a personal feel and a genuine sense of purpose.
Creative director Clement Vidal said: “Lately, our love of sport has been challenged more than ever before, being unable to practice, compete and follow. When diving into the athletes’ stories, we witness the strength of their love of sport - and what it can endure. The rewrite of the iconic song One Love seeks to amplify these stories and voices, through an uplifting anthem; An homage to the love of sport to inspire the next generation of athletes and beyond.”
