Penned by one-half of the original authors, Neil Gaiman’s timely new supplement to the lore is a charming wink to append the series.
Among a slew of lockdown videos, the cute, speculative bent of this story is a fun new twist on the tropes we’ve seen over the past couple of months. As lockdown continues, Aziraphale, the angel, checks in on his demon “friend,” Crowley, who is having a hard time dealing with the isolation orders. Sure, he’s a demon, and he can’t get sick, but if he goes outside he’ll set a horrible example for the mortals and...you know...people might die. Michael Sheen and David Tennant ham up their roles, simpering and growling into the telephone from opposite ends of the fictional world.
While a strange sentiment for a demon to have, the humorous and tongue-in-cheek comedy of the show is expertly recreated with help from production company Narrativia, and directed by the series' director, Douglas Mackinnon. The story is sweet, littered with references to both the book and visual cues from the television series.
