Born from a frustration at the lack of real engagement within the industry towards developing diversity, and ignited by his volunteer work for the Creative Mentor Network, Neil Linpow's latest film is a hyper-kinetic showcase of talent.
Entitled Smash & Grab, the short sees four intense women take a drive towards an unknown 'job', each having their trademarks highlighted in entertainingly (and intentionally) blatant gangster tropes as the city rushes by.
Self-financed by Linpow, who also writes, produces and directs, the project was made with the help of ten young people from local community centres, all paid full rates and partnered with experienced crew that were lending their time.
The result is a piece that not only entertains with its knowing twist ending, but also puts its money where its mouth is in regards to championing the filmmakers for the future, and for that it deserves special applause.
