In this branded documentary from Google, we get an inside look at the Compton Cowboys, a group of urban horse rescuers who give hope to their community.
As a young girl zooms through a barrel course on horseback, a woman relates her struggles with moving past her brother’s death, and how the Cowboys helped support her. Through images of life on the Compton farm, we get an insider look into this community of brothers and sisters who support each other, and their community, through horses. It’s a vulnerable and open piece; full of strength, hope, and joy. There’s a reclamation of identity, both for Black people and cowboy culture.
Directed by Floyd Russ and produced by Tool, this short mini-doc is an exceptionally touching piece of media that serves to enlighten and educate, exposing us to an alternate way of seeing cowboys. The horses as well, become beacons of hope, power, and healing, as we strive to move forward in a revolutionary new world.
