Nominative determinism implies that people gravitate toward jobs/attitudes that match their name, and never is that more apparent than in the subject of Sebastian Lopez's cracking debut film for Globe Studios.

Instead of focussing on the fashion brand's wares, the film instead paints a portrait of 63-year-old Lucky, a Nigerian barber who has been running his afro salon, Probe 2000, on Istedgade for 25 years.

Filled to the brim with its subject's charisma, the FERN director's style shines through, carrying a unique rhythm and infectious energy that makes it impossible not to be tickled.

Brilliantly, the Dax Media-produced piece has found viral success on TikTok, racking up over 60,000 views and 8,000 likes in just a few days, meaning one in eight viewers who watched the 24-year-old director’s creation hit the like button.

“There are not many afro barbers in Denmark, so when I found Lucky years ago, I was thrilled. I always knew I wanted to make a film with him," Lopez shared. "My Cuban roots gave me a love for music and dance, and I wanted to infuse that energy into the film. Lucky’s natural rhythm and joy made it easy. The way he moves, the way he talks—it’s all so infectious. When you see him dance, you can’t help but feel the vibe and want to join in.

"I’m grateful to Yazn Razik and Mia Birch at Globe Studios for trusting the vision from the start.”
