In this energetic and action-packed promo for their track TTTTOKYO, directed by Mackenzie Sheppard through ProdCo and with VFX by 1920, Japanese girlband ATARASHII GAKKO! explore Japan as miniature characters.
Returning to the Japanese capital, the band members discover a magical gacha-gacha machine which shrinks them down to pocket-sided proportions. Despite their tiny size, they deliver an excitable, high-energy performance, tearing through Tokyo like an oversized playground while breaking into tightly choreographed dances.
The film was brought to life through an intricate blend of live action shots and real environments across Tokyo, followed by three days of post production shooting the band with the correct angles and lighting to bring them to life in miniature. The 1920 VFX team worked across over 80 VFX shots, rotoscoping and compositing the group seamlessly into each location.
