Five Questions from Quarantine: Alejandro Marquis
We hear from Alejandro Marquis at Whisky about the gang of boardgames he would tackle while at home, his YouTube channel and temporarily working on the dining table.
What's your self-isolation set-up at the moment?
I live in Mexico and as you probably know government here has been a little too relaxed on COVID-19. On march 16th we at Whisky began a voluntary quarantine. And I have to confess that I wasn’t prepared. I had to buy a working chair and a desk. The desk hasn’t arrived yet so I still have to work on the dining table. Definitely not the ideal scenario but still have faith the desk will arrive anytime soon.
It's lockdown; aside from your family, which four people, past or present, would you most like to be quarantined with?
I like to play Piano (you can check my youtube channel here). So I would love to have a long conversation (turned into a Masterclass) in quarantine with Mr. Bill Evans, Mr. Frederyck Chopin, Mr. Markolino Dimond and Mr. Eddie Palmieri.
We need entertainment, what's your favorite short film?
I would recommend two:
- Fiesta Saurus Rex from Pixar
- Dear Basketball from the late Kobe Bryant

You've completed Netflix. And Amazon Prime. And Disney+. It's on the hard stuff; board games. What do you pick and why?
I’m more into Videogames (PS4). But if I have to pick table games I would say Monopoly or traditional card games like Rummy, Blackjack or Poker.
On a serious note, how do you think this situation will impact you individually, and the industry as a whole?
I agree with those specialists that think we will never be the same after this. And at the same time I say thank God we won’t. We should be better prepared for next viruses We should be more united as a race and be less egotistical. Personally I intend to grab any opportunity life would give me. And that goes from riding my bike every chance I get, to going to that party where I might feel a little uncomfortable. I miss walking around my neighborhood and sitting on a park bench. Now we don’t have any of those simple things of life.
The industry as it usually does will recover and adapt to new realities. I’m eager to see what will be the subject, color palettes and themes after COVID’s crisis. I’m sure it will be a celebration of life and resilience!
