From the corruption that led to the Gulf country hosting the cup, to the thousands of migrant workers who died as a result, it's clear that this year’s world cup has been one of extreme controversy.
The accumulation of gut-wrenching news in the build-up to this supposedly unifying event led filmmakers Greg Barth & Rodrigo Penalosa to create this attention-grabbing, satirical short film, which aims to raise awareness of the atrocities that have taken place in Qatar.
The film is a tongue-in-cheek mock promo for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 sticker album by Panono, taking a dark spin on a well known collectable football sticker brand. An oblivious family enthusiastically fills their albums with cards such as Migrant Workers, Causes of Death, Corruption, and Bribes.
The tone of the film takes a sombre turn, as the cast come across a blank page at the end of the book with four missing cards, shining a spotlight on the country’s lack of basic human rights for women, migrant workers, and the LGBTQ+ community.
