In a bizarre, surreal video for Equinox, Floria Sigismondi directs a celebratory reimagining of the story of Narcissus, turning vanity into heroism.
As a woman lectures to children at a museum, Narcissus is brought to technicolor life, moving in the background of his portrait. He falls into his reflection, lifts rocks, and strangely carries an elder man to safety. The kids watch, spellbound, as an absolutely ripped gentleman is adored by all around him.
The Most Selfless Act of All is a strange descent that honors the time that people spend working out. Developed by Droga5 and produced by Believe Media, the film is wildly individual, embodying Narcissus’ own hubris when it says that you should make yourself into a gift for the world. The bright colors, fantastic background, and dance routine at the end of the scene work together to create a dreamlike setting for a retelling of a myth that is usually read as a warning.
