Undoubtedly flouting a host of health and safety regulations, this gorgeous promo made by award-winning filmmaker Patrick Fileti and Mexican DP Galo Olivares (Alfonso Cuaron’s collaborator on Roma) is a sensual love story that builds to a climactic festival of fireworks.
Perfectly matching the British singer’s plaintive vocals, Heartachers is a re-edited version of Fileti’s short documentary, Inferno, which won multiple awards (including Best Short Documentary at Palm Springs International Film Festival 2019). The film tells the extraordinary true story of Tultepec, a town in Mexico famous for its pyrotechnics and the subculture that surrounds it.
Wilding said of the collaboration: "The film is about a pyrotechnician who is ready to die for the thing he loves. In this town there is this overwhelming tendency for the young men to lose their lives to the fire. That fascinated me. It reminded me how easily people can become addicted to their own sadness. But more, it made me think of the subject of the song, the sadness that engulfed [the couple] like a flame and how the people that were left behind had no choice but to accept the ashes.”
