Applying his Oscar-nominated storytelling approach to a real-world protest piece, director and political activist Bryan Buckley presents a contemporary dance memorial staged in Washington, D.C.

Created by First Amendment Troop and produced by hungryman, The ResistDance pays tribute to Renée Good and Alex Pretti through choreographed movement and staged visual moments that channel grief and defiance into a stark contemporary performance.

Staged by a cast of 22 dancers - reflecting the 22 days between the two deaths - the performance unfolded at the Lincoln Memorial on Monday, February 16, 2026 (President’s Day) at 1pm, followed by a guerrilla performance at the Kennedy Center, as a public intervention rather than a traditional theatre piece.

“This is about honouring the lives of two heroes, René and Alex, defending our First Amendment rights, and art as dissent,” notes Buckley. “Since Trump made himself the Chairman of Entertainment at the Kennedy Center, we’re premiering the script he’s been writing.

"The ResistDance will pay tribute to all those who have suffered under this administration, and demand actual accountability instead of false remorse for what is happening across our country.”

“This is about the humanity of the atrocities we are seeing daily,” adds ResistDance choreographer Mathew Steffens. "Gun rights advocates should care that Alex was legally carrying when he was killed. Civil liberties advocates should care about federal overreach and due process. Parents should care that Renée was protecting children near a school.

"These are American concerns, not partisan ones."
