Documentaries can sometimes give you an insight into the inner-life of recognisable figures, sometimes bring important issues to your attention and, sometimes, simply hold up a mirror to life.
Fitting firmly into the latter camp is DadBod director Craig Bingham's lockdown-produced short, telling an intimate story of his mother (an utterly charming presence in phoned-in voice-over) and how her love of horses has developed through her life.
Using recently shot footage alongside well-edited photography, Running Through Life makes for a delightful insight into a person's life that is at once well-told, succinct and bravely personal.
“What started off as a phone conversation during lockdown with my Mum turned into the backbone of a short," recollects Bingham. "Whilst chatting to her I never quite realised the sacrifices she made for us when we were growing up. I guess as children we never do.
"Animals have always been a big part of my life growing up on the farm. Mum and Dad were hard workers and still are today. From goats to jersey cows, all our animals held special characters. Me and my brothers earned our pocket money through mucking out the stables. But I never fully appreciated the special innate connection my Mum has with her horses”
