As stalkers go, Salah’s obsessive fan is actually rather endearing in this droll spot for the Egyptian financial institution, created by Wunderman Thompson/Cairo, and directed by Ahmed Hussein through Bigfoot Films.
One almost feels sorry for the cuddly devotee as he endures electrocution, being soaked, set upon by dogs and finally arrested, thanks to his efforts to get close to his idol Mohamed Salah, who has been the AlexBank brand ambassador since 2019.
The spot, titled The Uninvited Guest, promotes the bank's competition to win tickets to see Salah play live at Liverpool’s legendary Anfield Stadium.
Sport pop trivia fact: Liverpool football club supporters started the tradition of singing the rousing song of unity, You’ll Never Walk Alone, when it became a chart hit performed by local Liverpool group Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963. The tune was originally from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel.
