Illustrating a complicated co-dependency, Easy, directed by Michael Gupta through Photoplay / Playtime for the band Winter Swim, unpicks traditional themes of identity, family and growing apart with a bloodsucking twist.

Aptly dropped on Halloween, this atmospheric, cinematic film tells the story of a woman who nurses a baby vampire to maturity, depicting all of the usual trials and tribulations of raising a teenage daughter with the slight additional predicament that is her unquenchable thirst for human blood.

Easy explores the sacrifices the mother must make to keep her daughter satiated, pondering the principles of loyalty and the cost of tormented love through dark and haunting visuals.

“For Easy, it was important that the tone was grounded, utterly realistic and not heightened.” explained Gupta. “We shot over several dusk evenings, always with an eye to letting the scenes unfurl with restraint, drip-feeding the story gently to draw the audience in.”
