Produced by Sweetshop London, the promo imagines a curious walk around an Essex coastal resort taken by identically dressed women with a penchant for jerky hip-swinging and mad make-up.
Known for his dark comedy films, The Greasy Strangler and An Evening With Beverly Luff Lynn, Hosking has fashioned a beautifully bonkers video for the track, which is taken from the band’s first new album in six years, Radiate Like This.
“Hips has a scuttling intensity to it,” Hosking says. “It sounds like someone desperately trying to find something. Or at least that’s what it seemed to me. I listened to it repeatedly and kept seeing women searching for each other in a seaside town. Ideas present themselves and it’s not about logic or reason, it’s about emotion. And here the emotion suggested identically dressed women finding each other in the English town of Southend-On-Sea.“ Genius.
