Created by AlmapBBDO for Volkswagen’s 70th anniversary in Brazil, the Generations campaign features a mother-and-daughter reunion that went viral across the country. On its launch day alone it racked up more than 50 million organic views online.
The reunion meant that Rita, who lost her mother when she was just four years old, was able to sing a moving duet alongside her mom. Directed by Dulcidio Caldeira, through Boiler Filmes, the two-minute spot sees Rita at the wheel of the new 100 per cent electric version of the Kombi, when a car pulls alongside her on the same highway: it’s Elis Regina, one of Brazil's most popular singers, driving the classic Volkswagen model.
The film relied on AI trained specifically on recognition of Elis Regina’s face. The agency and the production company then teamed up with post production house Flow Effects, who used AI and a range of different technologies to combine scenes of the stunt double with footage and stills of the singer to arrive at a groundbreaking result.
