“To me you seem ready. Rising in the blue and floaty air,” the poetry in this short film poses the question that is core to Rosales' works: 'Why have we accepted Eurocentric perceptions of beauty for so long?'

…And isn't it time for a change?

Titled the Birth of Oshun and created exclusively for Vogue Scandinavia by Afro-Cuban American artist Harmonia Rosales and Danish director Jonas Bang, the film reimagines Botticelli’s masterpiece The Birth of Venus with BIPOC figures in roles of power and beauty.

Produced by New Land, it is set to the exquisite strains of Erik Satie’s Gnossienne No.3 arranged for cello.

In the Yoruba cosmology of southwestern Nigeria and Benin, the goddess Oshun represents freshwater, love, and fertility and has become a meaningful symbol to women in particular.
