Thousands of migrant workers have died or been injured while preparing cities in Qatar to host this year’s World Cup.

A collaboration between Swedish journalistic platform Blankspot, the app Forza Football and Swedish creative agency Forsman & Bodenfors, the campaign includes a touching film, directed by Olivia Kastebring, that profiles some of the people who make up those numbers and tells their heartbreaking stories.

Produced through New Land, Cards of Qatar is a multi-platform campaign, at its heart a series of beautifully crafted, sleekly packaged ‘football cards’ featuring portraits of migrant workers in the Middle Eastern country and accounts of their untimely deaths or injuries suffered because of unsafe working conditions.

The cards will be followed by articles and interviews with players, politicians and workers’ organisations, and there’s a digital extension where Forza Football users can tweet people in the football community to ask them to share the stories.

Patrik Arnesson, founder of Forza Football says, “This is 2022. Major championships should not be organised by countries that do not respect fundamental human rights.”
