Sci-fi cinema powers Maserati’s sublime CG animation

Drawing on classic sci-fi films – most notably the Alien series, Star Wars and Solaris – Alive enters an atmospheric subterranean realm to recount the birth of a supercar.

Conceived by agency Burson Cohn & Wolfe for Maserati and performance oil brand Pennzoil, the film was produced by RSA Films, and boasts riveting, technically detailed VFX from Analog. 

It’s completed by a rich sound design from ECHOLAB that blends organic elements, like heartbeat, with thrilling engine roars, rumbles, clicks and thunks, plus that nerve-jangling space station alarm sound from Alien.   

Shynola, which comprises filmmakers and mixed-media artists Jason Groves, Chris Harding, and Richard Kenworthy, is currently celebrating 20 years of creating consistently distinctive and award-winning work since joining forces at art school in the 1990s.
