Director Josh Wakely has created this painterly, animated video for legendary rock band Pearl Jam's latest single, Retrograde.
The spot which, unusually, also features the band themselves, is part-animation part-motion-capture after the originally planned live-action promo was caught up in the Covid-19 pandemic and had to change its approach. The video features some beautiful-looking but worryingly cataclysmic events as a man visits a fortune teller who shows him images of possible climate events.
Wakely used stock foootage of Thunberg to weave into the video, telling Variety magazine, “She never had to act a frame, but she provided that emotion I was looking for. It was a huge thrill to see an email in my inbox from her saying that she loved it.”
