Created for Greenpeace by Mother, this campaign includes a chilling film directed by Samona Olanipekun of Steve McQueen’s Lammas Park stable, and featuring Will Poulter (Midsommar, Guardians of the Galaxy 3).
Depicting a lavish party packed with excess and gluttony, the spot is rich in metaphor: ice sculptures melt as fags are stubbed out on them; a climate crisis rages in the kitchen as fires and floods take hold; meat-eating revellers rage on, sporting peacock feather headgear signalling the ravaging of nature.
The decadent older generation partygoers are deaf to the warnings of the young musicians performing a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s single Don’t Stop, re-imagined by Grammy-winning producer Fraser T Smith (Stormzy, Adele, Drake) and rapper Avelino.
As the party spins out of control, words appear stating that while the world is suffering some of its deadliest ever heatwaves, wildfires and floods – oil companies are enjoying record profits. It is a sobering reminder of the cost of celebrating fossil fuel industry success and ends with a hopeful message that by taking action we can ensure a better tomorrow for all.
Steve McQueen, who exec produced the film, commented : "This short is an arresting look at the state of a world hurtling out of control. It captures the unease at seeing corporations do damage to the environment on our behalf, acting like there's no tomorrow and driving the climate crisis solely for their profit. But we have collective power to realise a different future. It's
imperative that people don't forget, tomorrow is promised to no-one."
