What do you get if you cross a Hollywood director, the DoP from the latest season of Stranger Things, and one of screen's serenest scream queens?

Well, if you're BBDO New York you get a cracking, horror-themed spot for The American Red Cross, giving the serious crisis of blood shortage a lighthearted twist with the help of some tropes.

Titled A Bloody Nightmare, the ad sees Division7 director Matt Spicer dust off his inner Craven/Carpenter and present us with a series of folk who are more used to spilling bloody than donating it.

"From the beginning, we knew that we did not want people tuning out as soon as they realized they were watching a PSA about blood donation," comments Roberto Danino, SVP Creative Director, BBDO New York. "We wanted to keep everyone entertained by creating something fun and unexpected from the American Red Cross, all while encouraging them to donate blood and save lives.”.
