Helmed by F5 Shangai, Sad Mona Lisa is a silly Renaissance romp through portrait and disappointment.
A parade of painters pass through Mona Lisa’s Florentine house, each one attempting to make her smile, simper or at least not look like she’s got total bitch face for the duration of a portrait session. Eventually, da Vinci shows up and instead of just painting Mona as-is, he uses his famed invention skills to create an AC. Finally, Mona stops scowling long enough for da Vinci to whip up something that’s good enough, I suppose.
The clever premise and fun costumes are really entertaining and eye-catching. The last ten seconds of the ad are lackluster, and a bit of a downer considering how fully the ad commits to the bit originally. Directed by Alessandro De Leo and produced by Section80 the ad remains strong, and worth it for the Renaissance comedy.
