TyC Sports and Mercado McCann Buenos Aires have created a tribute to Diego Armando Maradona, who died last month, in this near-two-minute spot.
Directed by Santiago Charriere through La Doble, the spot follows the journey of the Aztec football (the ball used in the Mexico 1986 World Cup, won by Argentina) which travels around the world to give one last goodbye.
“Like many Argentinians, we feel the need to tell Diego how much we are going to miss him," said Nico Massimino and Juan Pablo Lufrano, Chief Creative Officers at Mercado McCann. "The moment we decided, along with TyC, to go forward with this goodbye, we were careful to find the right tone; a message that touched peoples' hearts, that felt genuine, affectionate and respectful. We know that in these days there have been many tributes to Diego, but we felt that one was missing, one that is not more or less important, but is key to this story.”
