The cruelty of killing fox cubs for sport is highlighted in a clever spoof created by Engine Creative and directed by The Glue Society, through Biscuit Filmworks.
Keep The Ban, a non-profit that campaigns against the hunting of wildlife for sport, aims to raise awareness of the practice of 'cubbing'.
The equivalent of the ‘pre-season’ for fox hunting, cubbing involves hunters training their dogs to kill fox cubs as they are easier to catch than adult foxes.
The practice is responsible for the bloody slaughter of thousands of defenceless fox cubs in England and Wales each year. Yet only 5 per cent of the public know what cubbing is, making it one of fox hunting’s dirtiest secrets.
The film, The World’s Worst Sport, sees TV sports pundits discuss the countdown to a cubbing session as a ‘match’ between two teams. Cleverly repurposing the typical battle-themed lingo used in football commentary – “looks like it could be a mauling for the Cubs” – the script chillingly highlights the cruel reality of the ‘sport’.
Rob Pownall, Founder at Keep The Ban, said: “It's 2022, and there are people going out ripping fox cubs to pieces. It's shocking and bizarre. That is exactly what this film encapsulates – a normalisation of an almost surreal pastime. Using an easily recognisable format, we’ve exposed this grotesque activity to a new audience.”
