You know it's going to happen. Sure as every other spot this time last year was about lockdown living and empty streets, with a number of countries rocking the vaccine and places reopening, we're set for a deluge of 'getting back to normal' ads.

However, they will be hard-pushed to match the wit, silliness and sheer joie de vivre of Energy BBDO's effervescent For When It's Time for Extra Gum.

Taking us through the realisation of many quarentinees as they finally break the shackles and escape into the world, Nick Ball's terrific spot throws deliberate cliché after deliberate cliché at the screen, working each to the max with clever art direction and splendid casting and performances.

Most refreshingly, the ad works incredibly well for the brand's purpose - we might need a breath mint after so long away from others - mixing concept and craft to terrific effect. Plus Celine Dion. Nuff said.
