shots isn’t quite sure what the collective noun for celebrities is… A cluster? A gaggle? A list (A-List, geddit?).

At any rate, a veritable constellation of stars glitter in Wes Anderson’s much anticipated new film The French Dispatch, described as a love letter to journalists revolving around the French outpost of a 20th-century American magazine.

Many of the celebs appear as animated avatars in this music video launched by Searchlight Pictures ahead of the feature's release on 22 October. The promo has been beautifully illustrated and animated by Javi Aznarez, and directed by Anderson for the song Aline by Jarvis Cocker.

A cover of singer Christophe’s 1966 hit, Aline is one of several French pop covers to feature on Cocker’s musical counterpart to The French Dispatch, titled Chansons d’Ennui, a record that will also include versions of tracks by Serge Gainsbourg, Brigitte Bardot, Marie LaFôret and Jacques Dutronc.

In the promo, Cocker performs as the fictional singer Tip-Top who, in typically whimsical Anderson style, jaunts through the feature film’s fictional French town, weaving in and out of the lives of some of the film’s A-listers – Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Benicio Del Toro and Timothée Chalamet.

For a glimpse of other members of the cast – Owen Wilson, Adrian Brody,  Elisabeth Moss, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman and more – watch the superb trailer

Chansons d’Ennui will arrive alongside Alexandre Desplat’s excellent score for the feature.
