Gardening is supposed to be a relaxing weekend warrior activity, but sometimes nature calls, and what are bugs to do but boink right next to where you’re pulling weeds?

In Biodiversity Starts In Your Garden, slugs slime over each other, centipedes curl their toes, dragonflies do the horizontal tango and quite a few other insects just do what comes natural to them. It's startling and disarming, and the entire premise is so weirdly fascinating that you can't tear your eyes away. The effect is hilarious, wildly inappropriate, and the film itself is likely considered an act of obscenity in at least a few countries.

Lewd and bizarre, the focus of the film is on bugs doing the deed, but the gardener behind them digs her hands into the ground in a no less innocent way. Heimat’s bold vision is so absurd that it borders on lurid, and director Hauke Hilberg strikes a balance between the two.
