It is a uniquely Italian ability to be able to create a sense of home around any table.

In the middle of World War II, as American troops invaded Rome, a chef is recruited by a young American soldier to cook a meal that feels like home for an army of GIs. As the chef and the soldier work together to try to come up with the perfect meal, the chef spots the K Rations and decides to make his own recipe. Using the rations’ bacon and dehydrated eggs, the chef produces carbonara, and brava, the soldier’s mission is complete.

Filmic and exceptionally well made, this folkloric retelling from Alkemy is a testament to a lot of the things that many people have missed. Family gatherings, good meals, and healthy cultural exchange. The Origins of Carbonara was directed by Xavier MairesseBarilla is committing to 'Carebonara' by donating one million pasta dishes to Food for the Soul for their restaurant-style Refettorios in 2021.
