Old Mauro wells up a bit when he describes how for 40 years he's been bonding with fans who come to his stall and fuel up with beautiful sandwiches for the beautiful game.

Created and produced by DUDE and directed by Alessandro Redaelli, this charming mini doc for Heinz displays the emotional connection Italians make between food and football. 

It’s this special sport-sandwich relationship that has inspired Heinz’s new sauces promotion – Calcio Mangiato, which literally means ”eaten football.”

Far from an endorsement to chow down on the unpalatable leathery orb, the campaign follows the ritual of the pre- or post-match sandwich consumed outside the venue and profiles three Stadium Heroes – the paninaris, Mauro, Sofia, and Ruggiero. 

The film highlights how close they’ve been to their football team at San Siro every Sunday, yet – until now – they’ve never been able to leave the stall to watch the game live. 

To ensure the seamless continuation of the sandwich-making tradition, Heinz arranged for three Italian chef influencers to take over and keep the paninos flowing while Mauro, Sofia, and Ruggiero entered the stadium – creating an unforgettable day for the trio.
