Landscapes rarely get more dramatic than the staggering vistas of Norway, but that doesn't stop Passion PicturesFuture Power Station from adding additional spectacle to the setting.

With ON Running's new film Tri-Kings, the newly signed director (real name Yibi Hu) add a dash of comic-book-inspired flair to the tale of Norwegian triathletes Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden; pitching them as Norse heroes battling manifestations of the elements.

Combining live-action footage with some breathtaking animation, the film rockets along in its 150-second runtime, leaving you almost as out of breath as the athletes themselves.

Creative Director Simon Brotherson sheds light on the project's inception: "While there was ample scientific content about Kristian and Gustav, specifically their 'Norwegian Method of training', we felt a fresh take was needed. Given that both athletes have been referred to as 'Vikings' and their fierce reputation, we thought it fitting to fully embrace the Viking theme.".

“Simon and I had a long chat about how Gustav and Kristian race, their personalities, and their swimming, cycling, and running styles. We wanted to reflect a true triathlon, how athletes experience a race,” Hu recalls.

“During races, the audience has a completely different experience than the athletes. From the outside, it feels calm. But for the athletes, it can be pure chaos. And when you’re racing in truly spectacular surroundings, the mountains and trees around you seem to come alive – either helping you or trying to hold you back.”
