This new campaign for Meta - the new name for the combined worlds of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus - features a group of students who are drawn to a painting in a way they never expected.
Created by Droga5 New York and directed by Andrew Thomas Huang through Object & Animal, the spot features Henri Rousseau's painting, Fight Between a Tiger and Buffalo, as it bursts into life, revealing a world of lush vegetation, distant planets, raving flamingoes and jungle-loving bears (and we don't just mean the environment).
The story's artistic characters were designed by Sonny Gerasimowicz, who designed the Wild Things in Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are. Gerasimowicz and team built a cast of puppets and combined them with machine learning artificial intelligence techniques that synchronise to illustrate the warm and welcoming nature of the metaverse.
Electric Theatre Collective was then tasked with developing a process that used AI machine learning to treat the live-action animal puppets and connect them with the 3D CG environments they inhabit, then render everything in a style-inspired by Henri Rousseau.
