By turns entertaining, nostalgic and stomach-turning, this short film for Dazed Beauty is like stepping into a David Lynch fever dream, right down to the frosted lilac eyeshadow.
Directed by PRETTYBIRD's new signing, avant-garde performance artist, director and filmmaker Theo Adams, and starring members of his eponymous theatrical group, Dream Like The Stars takes us back to the Eighties with a spoof Tasmanian talent showcase in which wannabe stars in spangly frocks compete for national glory.
Of the inspiration behind the surreal short, Adams explained: "Two of Theo Adams Company's longest-serving members, Masumi and Mariya, became pregnant at around the same time. We knew we had to create something to celebrate so we have done the only thing that made sense for us. Dream Like The Stars transports the company, pregnant bellies and all, to a provincial 1983 Tasmanian public access TV talent show."
