Created by BETC with direction from Antoine Bardou-Jacquet through Partizan, this dynamic film tells the story of two fans who fall in love with an imaginary fantasy TV show, The Secrets of Wakany.
Interspersed with footage from the show, which is brought to life by imaginative set and character design, lavish costumes, and fast-paced storytelling, we see their undying love grow to extreme levels.
Over the span of ten years, we watch as the fandom evolves: the couple fill their home with its merchandise, cosplay its characters, adorn their first child in Wakany apparel, and even make some questionable tattoo choices.
Excitement grows as they settle in for the show’s final episode, and what is to be the defining moment of their ten year long obsession. The time has finally come to learn the secret of Wakany.
What comes next is an incredibly disappointing ending, sending the unsatisfied fans into such a furious fit of rage that they destroy their beloved memorabilia. As the film closes, text appears on the screen stating ‘don’t trust your imagination to just anybody’, taking a subtle swipe at some of our favourite TV series with less-than-satisfying endings.
