A nun, an elf queen and a spy walk into a diner... It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but the issues raised in this campaign for the Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) are no laughing matter.

Created by TBWA\Chiat\Day New Yorkand directed by Emily Elizabeth Thomas of Derby Content, The Gathering tells the stories of three Hollywood actresses who never got the part, inspired by real accounts of alleged sexual misconduct in the film industry.

The three-minute film, which debuts online ahead of the 10-day festival, uses subtle symbolism in the costumes, characters and voiceover to deliver a powerful statement on a well-trodden - but still unresolved - topic.

Happily, BFF is doing its bit for female empowerment by featuring the largest presence of female directors within a single festival edition to date - with women accounting for four out of six festival programmers.
