This jaunty glimpse into the secret life of robots is a fine example of how animation can enable the mysterious anthropomorphosis of things without faces.
Produced by Media.Work, the film, titled Bots, follows a bunch of simple non-organic entities as they interact with each other and their environment in a surprisingly organic fashion.
Starting off with a little bopping and hopping, they work together to make sense of their neighbourhood, eventually evolving enough to utilise tools and give structure to their universe with the aid of a pastime beloved of bots – geometry.
Via movement, and a subtle soundtrack featuring some cute quack-like sounds, the film manages to bestow individual characters on creatures that are basically a bunch of plastic discs, spheres and oblongs.
